About London West

London West is currently one of the larger CTT Districts, with currently (2025) nearly 80 affiliated clubs. Geographically it covers a diverse area, from parts of London , along the Thames valley and out into parts of Surrey, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Buckinghamshire. The District has a long history in time-trialling : Will Townsend was the National Chairman of the Road Time Trials Council (RTTC) for 23 years ! Will was instrumental in the formation of the MOT Regulations relating to Time Trials (drafted in 1960) under which time-trials are still run today, now under the aegis of Cycling Time Trials (CTT).

The District has a wide variety of TT and Hillclimb courses. In recent times , urban development , changing road systems and increasing traffic volumes have forced the loss of some courses and imposed limitations on the use of others : finding new courses is difficult for the same reasons.

The size and complexity of the District can be challenging, especially when dealing with the programmes of 'Open' and 'Club' events. We have been fortunate in finding committee members, both in the past and in the present, who have been able to deal with these matters on behalf of the clubs. There is, however, no doubt that the District Council will need to recruit successors to some of the present officers in the near future.
