County Durham | 9 miles | M9
Andrew Hall clinched victory at the Protech Velo 9-mile time trial on 21 July 2025, recording 19:59 in wet conditions for GTR Return to Life p/b Streamline. Ellen Powell topped the women's event with 23:59 for Durham Triathlon Club in this North East time trial.
Hall earned his first win of the season, edging Daniel Kane (Muckle CC) by three seconds after a runner-up at the Emergency Services 10-mile Championship last month. Jack Rees (Optimal Endurance Coaching) took third.
Hall said: “My coach Danny Grieves said we should focus on this race as he thought I had a good chance of achieving success in it. After doing a recce this morning, the sensations were good and the race all fell into place nicely for my first victory for GTR. Speaking to Shaun Tyson before the start, I mentioned it was almost 10 years since I last rode the course. Danny Grieves and Carl Donaldson went head-to-head that day, and with three cycling legends in my mind at the start line, I was ready for anything!”
Brian Ward (Protech Velo) was the fastest road bike rider in 21:10, seventh overall.
Powell fought off Kerry Gowland (Protech Velo) by 19 seconds, with Joanne Hilton (Team VC) third. Vicki Spong (OUTLANDS) was the first female road bike finisher in 26:09.
Vicki Spong (Outlands) 26:09
Joanne Hilton (Team VC) 24:48
The 9-mile M9 course starts south of the Three Horse Shoes pub on Pithouse Lane, Leamside, completing two box circuits around the A1, touching Great Lumley and West Rainton outskirts, finishing at the start.
