Why Oliver Ditches TT Bike (GCN Video)

I just watched this brilliant new GCN video from Oliver Bridgewood — “Why I Don’t Want to Ride a TT Bike Anymore” — and honestly, it had me smiling from ear to ear. Oliver just gets it, and it feels like he's speaking straight to the heart of what makes time trialling so special right now.

Road bike time trials are brilliant. They’re accessible, inclusive, and — most importantly — fun. Just grab your road bike, pin on a number, and go chase the clock. Pure joy.

What really hit home for me was Oliver’s take on the social side. TT bikes can be a bit… antisocial. Turn up to a group ride on one and you’re basically the villain of the ride. They’re too fast on the flat, tri-bars are dangerous in a bunch, and suddenly you’re riding solo. As he jokes, that’s fine if you’ve got no friends… but I’d rather ride with mine!

Road bikes fix all of that. They slot perfectly into club runs, Sunday rides, and coffee-stop chats. And here’s the best bit: every roadie already has a road bike. One bike really can do it all — group rides, everyday miles, and proper time trials. Barriers? Gone!

That’s why I love what road bike TTs are doing for our sport. They’re opening the door to so many more people — especially juniors and women — and making time trialling feel like something we all share, not something you need a second mortgage for. The numbers are climbing (our latest Annual Report shows it clearly), and it feels like the future is bright.

If you haven’t seen Oliver’s video yet, do yourself a favour — it’s spot on, full of heart, and already racking up views since dropping yesterday:

Huge thanks to GCN and Oliver for creating such a spot-on, heartfelt video — and for letting us spread the word!
